Semiconductor Chip Shortage FAQs

Manufacturers across the globe are facing a shortage of semiconductor chips, which are vital components used in the production of vehicles and other electronic devices. In some cases, this has led to manufacturers altering vehicle specifications in order to contend with the shortage, whilst others have been forced to temporarily suspend production. 

Though supply of the chip has now been resolved, post-COVID-19 demand continues to impact the industry. In readiness, we’ve been working closely with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure we can continue to provide you with seamless mobility.

New Orders and Deliveries

Can I still request quotes?

Yes, Alphabet will continue to provide quotations and place new orders.

We will keep you updated with your order status when we receive notification from the manufacturer and supplying dealer.

Yes, Alphabet will continue to place new orders. We will keep you updated with your order status when we receive notification from the manufacturer and supplying dealer.

Where possible, we will work with supplying dealers and vehicle manufacturers to source orders from stock or pipeline, to reduce longer lead times.

Will existing orders be affected?

Alphabet remains in close contact with its supplying manufacturers and dealers to ensure all orders are progressed in a timely manner. 

Some manufacturers are making changes to the standard specification of certain models to limit the impact of the shortage of semiconductor chips. Should your existing order be affected by this, you will be notified in due course.

If the manufacturer advises of any change in timings regarding new orders, your dealership, broker and/or Alphabet Representative will contact you.

Can I cancel my existing order?

If you would like to cancel your existing order, please contact your Alphabet Representative with your order number and reason for cancellation. We will then speak to the relevant dealership or manufacturer. 

Alphabet will not charge a fee to cancel your order, but the dealership or manufacturer may charge a cancellation fee depending on the stage of the vehicle build and/or the vehicle specification. Any finance agreement relating to a cancelled order will also be cancelled.

Will vehicle lead times be affected?

Some lead times could be affected. Alphabet remains in close contact with its manufacturing partners and will continue to provide lead times and delivery updates, when possible.

Collections and End of Contract

Can I extend my contract?

If your contract end date is within the next three months, we will be happy to discuss your options to extend. If it is beyond three months, please continue with your standard process.
