Former front cover ‘star’ heads to auction
A former Classic & Sportscar magazine cover, the restored 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL, will be offered for sale by H&H Classics at its Pavilion Gardens, Buxton auction on 29 November. With an estimated value of £60,000 - £70,000, the stunning vehicle combines classic elegance with modern functionality, making it a prized lot for collectors.
The rare right-hand drive Pagoda is notable not only for its extensive restoration by marque specialist, Silchester Garage, but also for its appearance on the front cover of the April 2009 issue of Classic & Sportscar magazine.
The prestigious vehicle, which carries the distinctive registration ‘DHJ 505B’, is finished in Horizon Blue with Dark Blue upholstery, enhancing its allure and charm. It comes equipped with both a hard and soft top, automatic transmission, and power steering, offering the dual attraction of a Coupe Convertible.
Damian Jones, senior motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: “The 230SL is a real piece of automotive art. From its magazine cover fame to its restoration and care by renowned specialists, it represents a triumph in classic luxury and German engineering of the mid 1960s.”
Maintained by Pagoda specialist Roger Edwards Motors, the car also features a high-end Becker Mexico Retro stereo, that alone cost £3,000. It has been treated to regular services and essential updates over the years, ensuring it remains in good condition.
“With such an impressive pedigree and history, we expect to see a great deal of interest in this wonderful motorcar,” adds Jones. “It really is a stunning vehicle that is ready to be enjoyed and cherished by its next owner”.
The car will be sold completed with a copy of its Classic & Sportscar magazine feature, a car cover, and a collection of sundry paperwork.
With more than 150 stunning classic and collectible cars being offered for sale, the auction promises to be an unmissable event for enthusiasts and those looking to add to their own collection.
