Tips and tricks for the maintenance of your car and bike

Published on 24/4/2025

Do you have a leased car or electric bike that you rarely use? If so, it's important to still take good care of it. Taking care of it will help you avoid problems when you do take it out on the road.

Read on for some easy tips for keeping your car or bike in tip-top condition.

Tips for maintaining your car

To maintain optimal battery life, it is recommended that you drive your car at least once a week. This ensures not only that the battery recharges, but also that the engine and tires remain in good condition and that the brakes do not become blocked when the car is parked outside for a long time.

It is also recommended that you leave the fuel tank at least half full, or better yet, completely full, when the car is not being used for an extended period of time.

If the tyre pressure is no longer right, a warning will be displayed on your dashboard. You do not have to take proactive action.

Try to keep your vehicle clean to prevent it from being damaged when not in use e.g. by the sap of trees which can affect the paint.

If you want to wash your car, we recommend that you refer to the instruction manual so that you know which cleaning products to use best.

Refer to your vehicle’s instruction manual for more information on how to service your electric vehicle, because each vehicle is different.

Tips for maintaining your electric bike

To prevent deep discharge, fully charge the battery at least once a month.

Do not expose the battery to extreme heat or cold. Do not leave the battery connected to the charger for longer than necessary, and do not store it if it is almost empty.

Check the tire pressure of your electric bike regularly. If the tires are underinflated, the battery will consume more energy and therefore run out more quickly.

Tires at the correct pressure also wear out more slowly, meaning you can get more use out of them.

Also, check that your bicycle's lights and brake pads are working properly, and lubricate the moving parts occasionally.
