Technical inspection

Technical inspection

In Belgium, technical vehicle inspections are mandatory for most vehicles, including leased cars. Passenger cars must undergo their first inspection four years after they are first registered. From then on, annual inspections are mandatory. Under certain conditions, an inspection every two years is also possible.

The cost of the inspection is included in your lease contract. You will receive a voucher to use at a vehicle inspection centre of your choice upon request.

When is your vehicle due for a technical inspection?

  • Passenger cars without tow bar: The first time is four years after registration. After that, your vehicle must be inspected yearly.

  • Light trucks: yearly.

  • Passenger cars with tow bar (< 750 kg): The first time is four years after registration. After that, your vehicle must be inspected yearly.

  • Passenger cars with tow bar ( > 750 kg): yearly.

What documents are required for the inspection?

When you take your lease car for its technical inspection, make sure you have the following documents with you:

  • The registration certificate confirms that your lease car is registered with the Vehicle Registration Service (DIV in Belgium).
  • The Certificate of Conformity (COC) proves that your car meets the necessary technical and safety requirements.
  • The previous inspection certificate proves that your lease car passed the inspection last time. (Not relevant for the first inspection)
