We were delighted to host Alex Baker, Member of Parliament for Farnborough and Aldershot, along with Constituency Support Manager – Nicky Slater, at our Summit One campus last week for a site tour and an open discussion concerning the Government's road to zero strategy.
During the visit, Alex met with David George, Chief Executive Officer – BMW Group UK and Ireland; Ian Turner, Chief Sales Officer – Alphabet (GB); and Tom Hollick, Head of Government & External Affairs – BMW Group UK and Ireland, to take a deeper dive into the Government's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, coupled with the proposed implementation of the Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (mileage-based tax) in 2028.
The meeting offered insight and the opportunity to have constructive dialogue regarding the real impact current and impending policies are having on the automotive sector, with 80% of all new cars sold to be zero-emission at the tailpipe by 2030.
We welcome our MP’s support to help facilitate further Government conversations, and the steps that can still be taken centrally to help the industry meet the huge challenges ahead.
