Shoreham Vehicle Auctions appeals for children's hospice support

During a period of great disruption for charities nationwide, independent vehicle auction house Shoreham Vehicle Auctions (SVA) is once again pledging its support to Chestnut Tree House children's hospice (CTH).

With all the challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, this year SVA is pledging £10,000 to its long-standing charity auction partner as part of its 10th anniversary annual fundraising efforts and is urging all south coast used vehicle dealers to donate any unwanted running vehicles or part-exchanges to the auction.

Despite the obvious uncertain circumstances, it is hoped the charity auction will help raise some vital funds for CTH care services which cost in-excess of £4.6m each year. The hospice relies heavily on the generosity, help and support of local people and businesses, including the help received from the south coast motor trade.

SVA is seeking all running cars and vans, regardless of age, shape and size, with or without an MOT, from across Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey to auction. Local businesses are also being invited to 'get involved' in the fundraising by pledging their support through financial donations.

The Charity Car Auction will take place on Monday 23 November while the Charity Van Auction takes place on Tuesday 24 November. With the nation in lockdown, final details of the logistics of the event will be available via the website closer the time.

It is estimated that charities across the UK like Arundel-based CTH face a £12.4bn shortfall in income during 2020 with most fundraising opportunities erased throughout the year.

"When the pandemic struck, we had to close our shops and all events were postponed or cancelled – our fundraising income dropped by 70%," said Sarah Colbourne, head of fundraising at Chestnut Tree House.

"Things were starting to improve, but right now, especially with the second national lockdown, we need our community's support more than ever. We are so grateful for everyone's support – without you, children's hospice care wouldn't be possible, now or in the future. Thank you."

Catherine Stone, SVA's business development manager who has led the campaign since SVA began supporting the charity in 2011, said, "Our 10th year of supporting Chestnut Tree House comes under very different circumstances during such unprecedented times.

"As individuals and businesses alike, we recognise just how tough it is for everyone right now but at a time when they probably need us most, we wanted to continue our support of CTH. We hope that may inspire others amongst our community and beyond to do the same. Any support – on matter how big or small - is welcome."

Having first opened its doors in 2003, CTH currently cares for around 300 children and young people with life-shortening conditions, both at the hospice and in families' own homes. The hospice offers several types of support, including respite breaks and end of life care, and psychological and bereavement support.
