Nissan UK dealer network unites to provide free vehicles to support NHS worker mobility
Nissan has united its UK dealer network to provide more than 100 cars for free-of-charge use by NHS workers.

More than 30 dealer sites, those still able to operate, are taking part in the initiative that has been coordinated by Nissan GB to support frontline health workers with personal mobility should their normal mode of transport currently be compromised during the Covid-19 crisis.

The vehicles allocated for the initiative include Micra, Juke, Qashqai and all-electric LEAF. They are typically used for dealer demonstrators or courtesy cars. For those NHS workers offered a Nissan LEAF, the dealer will provide free access to the dealer’s charging facility.

The vehicles are provided at no cost and will include complimentary insurance and roadside assistance. Only fuel or charging costs will need to be covered by the recipient. For insurance cover, the NHS worker has to be over 25 with no more than 6 points on their license.

NHS workers are asked to register their interest in receiving a free Nissan loan vehicle via an online registration form hosted on the Nissan UK website. Their details will be relayed to their local dealer who will be in contact to arrange the vehicle loan. The initial number of vehicles is limited, so Nissan encourages those most in need of mobility to not delay their application. Applicants will be informed that they will be contacted if a car is available from a local dealer (within a 20-mile radius of their home).

Andrew Humberstone, managing director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd. said: “At a time when our healthcare workers are under immense pressure, Nissan wanted to offer its support in enabling their journeys to be trouble-free and more convenient.

“For the NHS worker who might rely on public transport and would prefer a car to drive instead; or for those whose car has experienced a breakdown and don’t have the time to arrange its repair; or there’s any other impact on your personal mobility, then please get in touch with Nissan and we will try to help you access one of our vehicles for free.”

Nissan has previously announced that key workers, including NHS employees, driving Nissan vehicles can access roadside assistance services free of charge, regardless of vehicle age or warranty coverage, to help them stay mobile during the coronavirus lockdown.

In the event that roadside assistance is required, key workers can simply call Nissan Assistance on 0330 123 1231, give the details of their Nissan vehicle and a technician will be dispatched to assist them.

The cover includes roadside repair and recovery to the nearest Nissan dealership still able to stay open for after sales service. In addition, Nissan will also prioritise free-of-charge courtesy cars for key workers should their vehicle need to be repaired at a dealership.

Nissan’s supply chain experts at the company’s Sunderland plant are also coordinating the distribution of up to 100,000 protective face visors a week to frontline workers.

A team of volunteers have created a parts processing line in the plant’s final assembly area to sort thousands of individual visor parts and pack them in sets for shipping direct to the NHS.
