SWIFT to deploy 21 electric BMW i3s

posted on May 06, 2015

TERHULPEN, 6 May 2015 – On Tuesday 5 May, specialist in financial messaging SWIFT started using 21 electric BMW i3 cars in partnership with leasing specialist Alphabet and BMW dealership Ginion Group. The company consciously chooses to make its fleet more eco-friendly. In addition, it is the largest fleet of electric BMW i3s simultaneously deployed in Belgium.

The whole SWIFT fleet consists of more than 950 corporate vehicles. As part of an ambitious mobility plan which includes significant 'greening' of the fleet, the financial transaction specialist selected the BMW i3 with Range Extender.

"Our i3 project is a perfect match for SWIFT as an innovative technology company. It supports our ambition to reduce our impact on the environment. Our mobility plan is constantly evolving: this new initiative allows employees with a relevant driving profile to have a direct positive impact on our overall emission level. It will also ensure that more electric vehicles will be chosen in the future," says Caroline Ceustermans, SWIFT Fleet Manager.

For SWIFT the choice for the BMW i3 with Range Extender was a logical choice. This premium city car met the requirements of the company more than perfectly, including an autonomy of up to 300 km. As part of the mobility package, the drivers can also use a traditional car for 30 days each year.

Leasing specialist Alphabet will take care of all practical matters with regard to the fleet management. "Alphabet is very proud to be delivering these 21 electric cars to SWIFT employees. It proves that AlphaElectric really works as a total concept to integrate alternative engines into existing company fleets, while still being user-friendly. For more comfort drivers can rely on Alphabet for a traditional car during e.g. their holiday periods. Alphabet is also there to assist in operational services or assistance related to their lease vehicle," says Marc Vandenbergh, Director Sales & Marketing at Alphabet.

BMW dealership Ginion Group introduced the BMW i3 to SWIFT. "SWIFT is a pioneer in terms of green mobility and wanted eco-friendly cars for its staff. Ginion Group maintains excellent relations with SWIFT and we have been loyal partners for years. Based on this collaboration the SWIFT project was materialised. By offering the BMW i3 as a fleet car we are very pleased to be able to meet SWIFT's expectations. The company gives its employees the chance to go for the mobility of the future with these eco-friendly cars. Ginion Group aims for perfection in terms of customised customer service. To this end we have passionate experts who give the best of themselves every day," states Stéphane Sertang, Ginion Group CEO.

Electrabel has provided the intelligent charging solution. 21 charging stations were installed by Cofely on the site of SWIFT and 19 at the concerned employees’ homes. Provided with an intelligent tool, the system offers the possibility to charge at any time in a safe way.

As a benchmark energy provider, Electrabel has a proactive policy to encourage a more sustainable mobility by offering complete solutions for charging electric vehicles and the participation in the construction and supply of service stations with CNG. Electrabel also assists its clients by giving them advice on these sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.
