Car fleet CO2 emissions down to 113 gr/km in 2014
After amply over-achieving the target of driving down the average emission levels of its car fleet to 120 gr/km in 2012, Alphabet Belgium has just signed a new contract with the Bond Beter Leefmilieu (Better Living Environment League) on 27 February 2013. By doing so, the lease company undertakes to roll back the emission levels of its car fleet even further to just 113 gr/km in 2014. Alphabet, which saw itself awarded Gold Fleet status with this endeavour, has also expressed its commitment to effect a further reduction to just 95 gr/km by 2020. On the same date, Alphabet’s Dutch subsidiary stepped up to the plate and also signed the Cleaner Car Contract.
A joint effort together with the customers
To effect a CO2 emission level of 120 gr/km, Alphabet enabled its customers to include fuel miser cars as part of their car fleet against favourable terms. This approach resulted in the accelerated greenification of the entire fleet, which saw Alphabet accomplishing its stated ‘Gold Ambition’ of 120 gr/km a lot sooner than expected.
Jan van Roon, Alphabet Belgium CEO, explains: “From the get-go, Alphabet endorsed this ambition together with the Bond Beter Leefmilieu. But we were also keen to prevent this aim from remaining a stated ambition on paper only. Which is why we sought to work together with our customers from the very outset. Something we will continue to do over the years ahead. This is the only way to make a difference and to turn your aim into a reality.”
Transparent on sustainability
The signing of the new Cleaner Car Contract seamlessly fits in with Alphabet’s strategy to do business openly. An apt example being the fact that we are clearly and publicly setting a CO2 emission. “In this case, it is not just about transparently sharing your CO2 emission levels with the outside world, it is also about making it clear to your customers that driving sustainable motoring is also effectively cheaper”, says Jan van Roon.
