International fleet service provider, Alphabet, expands further in 2007 with the opening of its office in Denmark. Alphabet is now present throughout Scandinavia.
MUNICH 5 July 2007 – Alphabet, the multimake fleet service provider of the BMW Group, to-day announced that it has launched activities in Denmark. Following Sweden, Norway and Finland, Alphabet is now present in every Scandinavian country. Alphabet Denmark focuses on smaller and medium-sized local customers, international customers as well as customers of AlphaDrive – a programme that allows employees to use their cash allowance benefits to lease cars (with services) at attractive conditions.
The operation is managed by Thomas Madsen, who has been with the BMW Group since 2001 and has profound experience in terms of car leasing and customer services. He said: “Alphabet completes the range of services offered by BMW Financial Services in Denmark. We have cherry-picked from Alphabet’s international services range and adapted them to tailor-made solutions for Danish customers.”
Karl-Heinz Kral, Head of Alphabet International, said: “Alphabet’s growth continues in 2007 with the expansion into two new markets, Mexico and Denmark. Denmark is the 13th country in Europe, and 15th overall. This launch demonstrates our commitment to provide first class services internationally to our customers and partners.” The goal is to establish an economically viable Alphabet operation on a pan-European scale serving existing and new international customers. Karl-Heinz Kral added: “More and more companies are looking for an international solution that covers every market and reduces their own involvement in terms of time and investment. Therefore, we are taking a step further towards offering this comprehensive solution.” In April, Alphabet started its operations in Mexico, which marked Alphabet’s first steps in the Americas.
Danish Fleet Market
The overall car market has a size of approximately 150,000 units per year, with up to 70,000 units being company cars. The company car market is very mature, but is expected to continue going forward.
Operational leasing is fairly developed and already accounts for 40% of all company car pur-chases versus 20% of the European average and still enjoys an anticipated high growth rate. The fleet management market is highly consolidated and quite competitive with fleets of more than 10 cars, being very price sensitive and having a tendency towards a sole suppliership structure.
